Following are the subjects taught by Maulana Uwais Namazi:
Students will read through a broad range of literature with an attempt to consolidate previously acquired learning and improve reading, writing and possibly speaking skills. Ideal for students looking to improve their Arabic beyond grammar and syntax (nahw+sarf).
Suggested materials: al-qira’at al-rashidah, al-manthurat, al-mukhtarat.
Ṣafwat al-Tafāsīr (Summary of Great Tafsir works)
Readings of selected chapters and passages from the Qur’an via this work. Students will be expected to prepare the text for reading, discuss any difficulties therein, then engage with topics mentioned in verses.
The course is primarily aimed at Arabic students, to apply and consolidate their grammatical learning, though others are welcome to join. It is to supplement the Arabic Literature class/course.
Al-Fawz al-Kabir (An Introduction and Approach to the Qur’an)
This work broadly pertains to what is now referred to as ulum al-qur’an or usul al-tafsir, it is unique in many ways, it is part introduction and summary of the Qur’an and part a proposal on how one ought to go about approaching the Qur’an.
Whilst this course is directed at Alimiyyah students and will thus be conducted as such, others are welcome to join and engage as passive students.
Al-Hidayah & Jami’ al-Tirmidhi
Students will read through selected chapters from Vol. 1 of al-Hidayah (taharah, hajj, zakat etc.), analyse Hanafi arguments, counter-arguments and hermeneutics therein, then view these in broader context of Hadith literature and contrast them with arguments and hermeneutics of other legal schools. This will be achieved via Jami’ al-Tirmidhi, a unique work which pays attention to verdicts and positions of various Sunni legal authorities and their schools.
Whilst this class is tailored for Alimiyyah students, others are welcome to join as passive/auditioning students.
