Bismihi Ta’ala Appa, Assalamu Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu, I had a question that someone put forth to me and wanted me to ask on their behalf. There is this family who is considered very lower income family, so as with such people, the government supports them, meaning they get food coupons to buy items discounted or completely free. Now from my knowledge, they have to use up these coupons up (whether they like the food items or not) for it show that they truly have a use for these coupons and are not just lying to get free items in a sense. So for cereal, they get coupons for only one particular brand of cereal (which no one in their family likes). So in order to use up the coupon, they get the that brand of cereal anyways and give it to another higher income base family who likes that cereal. My question is, is it permissible for the higher income base family to accept the cereal from the lower income base family? Or would it be considered impermissible because the higher end family can afford to buy their own cereal. JazakumAllah Khayr

Yes, it will be permissible for the higher income base family to accept the cereal from the lower income base family. This will be considered as a gift.
And Allah knows best.
